The amount of money you can receive is based on the EPC (Energy Performance certificate).
If a Biomass system is installed, then the amount of cash you receive is based on this formula:
Energy (kWh) of heating and hot water from EPC x Biomass tariff rate = £ Annual RHI payment to you
If a Heat Pump system is installed, then we have to calculate the performance first which is associated with the maximum flow temperature from the heat pump. The efficiency is measured using SCOP (seasonal coefficient of performance). The SCOP for a certain flow temperature will depend on the heat pump model selected. It’s in our interest to supply a high performance model. If we assume an SCOP value of 3.30 for a flow temperature 45°C.
The EPC has the energy demand value and we have to calculate what the proportion is renewable energy.
1-(1/SCOP) = 1 – (1/3.3) = 1 – 0.3 = 0.7
kWh from EPC x 0.7 = Maximum qualifying renewable heat kWh
Maximum qualifying renewable heat kWh x heat pump tariff rate = £ Annual RHI payment to you

If you wish to determine how much you could receive please use the Department of Energy and Climate Change website. Please feel free to contact us and we can guide you through it if you require assistance. There’s a good chance we could improve the RHI output for you in adjusting the design.
